I took this photo in the Shakespeare Garden at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) in early May. Thanks go to the BBG staff for letting me know the species name, Emilia sonchifolia var. javanica, aka "Irish Poet."

A graphic designer by profession, I've branched out (no pun intended) into photography, specifically nature photography. Photographing flowers is a valuable exercise in color and composition. I find gardens, intersections of nature and the built environment, to be particularly interesting; the way we shape nature to our ends says a lot about our culture and ourselves. Then there's the joy of capturing the ephemeral brilliance of a bloom at its peak. I hope you find as much peace and beauty in these shots as I did in creating them.
