I took this photo in the Rock Garden at Brooklyn Botanic Garden in late May. I think that the magenta azaleas are Rhododendron "Louise" (a variety of Kaempferi azaleas, Rhododendron kaempferi) and the white are Rhododendron "Gumpo White" (a cultivar of Satsuki hybrid azaleas, Rhododendron indicum).
Below are Spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica).
A graphic designer by profession, I've branched out (no pun intended) into photography, specifically nature photography. Photographing flowers is a valuable exercise in color and composition. I find gardens, intersections of nature and the built environment, to be particularly interesting; the way we shape nature to our ends says a lot about our culture and ourselves. Then there's the joy of capturing the ephemeral brilliance of a bloom at its peak. I hope you find as much peace and beauty in these shots as I did in creating them.
