Artist's Description
Nymphaea × daubenyana is a viviparous (forming plantlets while attached to the parent plant) hybrid water lily. It was introduced in the mid-nineteenth century. I captured this flower at Brooklyn Botanic Garden in April.
About Dawn Cavalieri
A graphic designer by profession, I've branched out (no pun intended) into photography, specifically nature photography. Photographing flowers is a valuable exercise in color and composition. I find gardens, intersections of nature and the built environment, to be particularly interesting; the way we shape nature to our ends says a lot about our culture and ourselves. Then there's the joy of capturing the ephemeral brilliance of a bloom at its peak. I hope you find as much peace and beauty in these shots as I did in creating them.
