Artist's Description
This type of bi-colored, flamed tulip is called a Rembrandt not because of any association with the painter's works, but because it resembles the broken tulips that were popular during the Dutch Golden Age. I don't know the name of this particular cultivar. I took this photo at Brooklyn Botanic Garden in April.
About Dawn Cavalieri
A graphic designer by profession, I've branched out (no pun intended) into photography, specifically nature photography. Photographing flowers is a valuable exercise in color and composition. I find gardens, intersections of nature and the built environment, to be particularly interesting; the way we shape nature to our ends says a lot about our culture and ourselves.
